About Crochet Colour Lab

Crochet Colour Lab was created to help fibre artists create beautiful colour palettes for their crochet and knit projects. Fed up with envisioning a colour palette, only to find some of the colours were unavailable in our preferred yarn, we set out to build a colour selection tool that works off the available colours of your favourite yarn.

Simply select your yarn and the number of colours to generate endless combinations! If you like a particular colour or colours, click the lock icon to “lock in” those colours and continue generating the remaining colours.

Colour Accuracy

How accurate are the colours on Crochet Colour Lab? That depends. We create our database of colours by analysing the images of the yarn available on the brand’s website. From the images, we approximate a “hex colour code” that represents the colour of the yarn. This means that whether the colour shown in the Lab is accurate depends a lot on the accuracy of the images of the yarn online. Photos of yarn might show slight differences in colour for many reasons (for example, lighting can impact the colour).

Additionally, some yarns are not a single, solid colour. Rather, these yarns may have some slight variations in the colours of the fibres. We do our best to approximate them to a colour that represents the yarn (more on ombre, stripe and other multicolour yarns below).

Ultimately, it’s more of an art than a science - we do our best to get the closest colour match to the images we find online. If you like a colour, we recommend that you spend some time looking at the available images on the brand’s website as well as Ravelry, to give you the best idea of the true colour of the yarn. While some yarns might be a bit brighter or darker in actuality, we believe that they will still play beautifully with the other yarns in your selected palette.

If you find that a particular colour from our website is inaccurate, you’re welcome to share this with us in our feedback form here.
